Taking advantage of the celebration of International Women’s Day, I dedicate this blog to pay tribute to all the women who have left their mark on my life, as well as the workers of AgroAmerica, who are the heart of our team, and to women around the world who tirelessly fight for their equality and empowerment.

I feel truly fortunate to have empowered women in my environment, who hold top executive roles, are inspiring entrepreneurs, and positive leaders who have been my constant source of learning and motivation. Among them are my wife, my daughter, and my mother, who have left an indelible mark on my life.

This special day provides us with the opportunity to reflect on the significant progress achieved by women worldwide, as well as to recognize the ongoing challenges they face in their pursuit of equality and empowerment. It is a reminder of the importance of continuing to support and promote gender equality in all spheres of society.

SIGNIFICANT ADVANCEMENTS

It’s inspiring to see how women have made significant advancements in all spheres of society in recent decades. Here are some positive figures and data demonstrating progress towards gender equality:

Education

Across the globe, more girls are receiving education than ever before. According to UNESCO, the female literacy rate has significantly increased in recent years, showcasing more equitable access to education.

Labor Force Participation

Women are entering the workforce in increasing numbers. According to the World Bank, the female labor force participation rate globally has increased from 52.4% in 1990 to 56.7% in 2020.

Leadership

Women are occupying leadership positions in politics, business, science, and technology more than ever. For example, Indra Nooyi served as the Chairperson and CEO of PepsiCo, one of the world’s largest food and beverage companies. During her tenure, she transformed the company and promoted health and sustainability initiatives.

Rights and Empowerment

Laws and policies are being enacted worldwide to protect women’s rights and promote their empowerment. From legislation against gender-based violence to initiatives to close the gender pay gap, significant steps are being taken towards gender equality.

Inspiring Stories

Behind each of these figures are stories of brave and determined women who defy expectations and strive for a more equitable world. From activists leading movements for change to entrepreneurs breaking barriers in the business world, women are demonstrating their ability to make a positive impact in their communities and beyond.

One inspiring story is that of Malala Yousafzai, who at a young age defied the Taliban regime in Pakistan by advocating for girls’ right to education. Despite facing violence and adversity, Malala continued her fight and became a global voice for girls’ education, becoming the youngest person to receive the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014.

Another example is Serena Williams, one of the most successful tennis players of all time, who has overcome sexism and racism in the world of tennis to become a sports icon and role model for women worldwide.

AGROAMERICA DRIVES GENDER EQUALITY

AgroAmerica operates in contexts where male roles predominate in the agricultural sector and faces various ethnic realities and a culture of machismo. However, the company strives to promote equal opportunities and non-discrimination in all its operations, recognizing the value of enriching diversity in achieving its goals.

AgroAmerica’s commitment to equality is reflected in the presence of women in leadership roles, where they are provided with opportunities for empowerment and professional development. From the Board of Directors and managerial positions to operational jobs, women are playing key roles in the company, demonstrating their capacity and significant contribution.

CHALLENGES

Although achievements in gender equality are encouraging, there is always room for continuous improvement. On this International Women’s Day, let us commit to continue promoting inclusion and equality at all levels, ensuring that all individuals, regardless of gender, can reach their full potential.

Let’s keep working together towards a more inclusive and equitable future for all!
